MEXICAN CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS

Nov 17, 2023

¡Hola, amigos! Join us as we unravel the vibrant tapestry of Mexican traditions that make Christmas in Mexico truly special.

🌟 Las Posadas: Walking in the Footsteps of Mary and Joseph

In Mexico, the Christmas celebrations kick off with Las Posadas, a reenactment of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem. From 16th to 24th December, communities come together to recreate the couple's search for shelter.

At Cantina del Barrio, we celebrate the sense of community and togetherness, via a family style gathering around the dinner table.

🌮 Feast of Flavours: A Culinary Christmas

Christmas in Mexico is a feast for the senses, especially the taste buds! Traditional dishes like tamales, bacalao a la vizcaína (salted cod), and buñuelos (sweet fritters) grace the tables.

At Cantina del Barrio, we take inspiration from these dishes to bring you Christmas specials that are a true celebration of Mexican flavours.

🌲 Nacimiento: Crafting Nativity Scenes

Nativity scenes, or "Nacimientos," are a central part of Mexican Christmas decor. Families take pride in creating intricate scenes that go beyond the typical manger.

We're decorating the restaurant to fully emerse ourseves in the vibrant colours of traditional Mexican Christmas scenes - with a western twist.

🎇 Nochebuena: Christmas Eve Extravaganza

Christmas Eve, or Nochebuena, is the main event in Mexico. Families come together for a festive feast that extends into the late hours.

At Cantina del Barrio, we invite you to join our Nochebuena celebration, where every bite and sip is a tribute to the joy and warmth of the season.

🎆 Piñatas and Fireworks: Ending with a Bang!

No Mexican celebration is complete without piñatas and fireworks. The burst of colours and crackling sounds fill the air with excitement.

At Cantina del Barrio, we aim to capture this festive energy - even if we don't have the space for fireworks!

So, why settle for a silent night when you can have a ¡Feliz Navidad a la Mexicana! Come, embrace the traditions, savour the flavours, and share the joy with us at Cantina del Barrio. Because, for us, Christmas isn't just a season; it's a celebration of life, love, and the richness of Mexican culture!
